What We Help With

Thinkshift - What We Help With

What I Help With

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some arrive with a clear concern; others come with a general sense that something isn’t right. In my practice, I work with adults across a wide range of psychological, emotional, and relational difficulties.

This page outlines common areas I help with. It isn’t exhaustive, and you don’t need to fit neatly into a category to begin therapy.

Anxiety and Stress

CP3-2-What-we-help-withI work with people experiencing:

  • Generalised anxiety
  • Chronic worry or overthinking
  • Panic attacks or panic symptoms
  • Social anxiety
  • Work-related stress and burnout
  • Performance anxiety

Therapy may involve understanding anxiety patterns, working with the nervous system, addressing underlying contributors, and developing more sustainable ways of responding to stress.

Depression and Low Mood

I support individuals experiencing:

  • Persistent low mood or emotional flatness
  • Loss of motivation or meaning
  • Fatigue or reduced energy
  • Self-criticism or feelings of hopelessness
  • Adjustment difficulties following life changes

This work often combines present-focused support with deeper exploration of emotional and relational themes.

Trauma and Complex Experiences

I work in a trauma-aware way with people affected by:

  • Childhood trauma or neglect
  • Complex or developmental trauma
  • Emotional, physical, or psychological abuse
  • Single-incident trauma
  • Chronic stress or overwhelm

Therapy is paced carefully, with a strong emphasis on safety, consent, and stabilisation. You’re never expected to revisit experiences before you feel ready.

Relationships and Attachment

CP3-1-What-we-help-withMany difficulties are shaped through relationships. I work with individuals around:

  • Relationship difficulties or recurring patterns
  • Attachment styles
  • Boundaries and people-pleasing
  • Intimacy and trust
  • Family of origin issues
  • Separation and relationship transitions

This may involve exploring both past experiences and current relational dynamics.

Self-Esteem, Identity and Meaning

I help people working through:

  • Low self-worth or self-doubt
  • Shame and harsh self-criticism
  • Identity questions
  • Life direction or purpose
  • Values and meaning

Therapy in this area supports the development of a more compassionate, integrated sense of self.

Habits, Behaviours and Patterns

I work with concerns such as:

  • Unhelpful habits or compulsive behaviours
  • Emotional eating or food-related difficulties
  • Procrastination and avoidance
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Stress-related coping behaviours

Where appropriate, hypnotherapy may be used alongside counselling or psychotherapy to support behavioural change.

Grief, Loss, and Life Transitions

I support people navigating:

  • Bereavement and grief
  • Major life changes
  • Career or role transitions
  • Health-related adjustments
  • Existential concerns

This work respects the individuality of grief and change, without imposing timelines or expectations.

When Hypnotherapy May Be Helpful

CP3-3-What-we-help-withHypnotherapy may be appropriate for some people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and stress-related symptoms
  • Phobias or specific fears
  • Habit change
  • Psychosomatic symptoms
  • Confidence or performance concerns

Any use of hypnotherapy is discussed collaboratively and integrated within a broader therapeutic approach.

What If I’m Not Sure?

You don’t need a diagnosis or a clearly defined problem to begin therapy. If you’re unsure whether therapy is right for you — or whether I’m the right practitioner — an initial conversation can help clarify this.

How This Fits With My Approach

The areas listed above are approached through the integrative, trauma-aware framework described in Our Therapeutic Approach.
